Background
Ken Kesey's "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" is a timeless classic that delves into the complexities of mental illness, control, and abuse. The novel, published in 1962, was an instant success and has since been adapted into a 1975 film starring Jack Nicholson, as well as numerous theater productions worldwide.
Naiad Productions brought the captivating story of "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" to Hong Kong, where they commissioned my team to create all of the visual materials and collateral for the play. Shift, known for their exceptional creativity and understanding of the twisted nature of the play's plot and characters, took on the project with great enthusiasm.
The creative team at Shift began by photographing the cast members in various poses that captured the essence of the characters. The photos were then printed, crumpled, and re-photographed to create a sense of distortion and unease. This technique was used to reflect the play's themes of psychological abuse and control. The resulting visuals were both striking and memorable, and helped to bring the play's themes to life on stage.
Overall, the brilliant, thought-provoking visuals created by us added an extra layer of depth to the play, making it an unforgettable experience for all who saw it.
